Jason Ray “Buck” Buckley, 47 of Union Grove, the Morgan City area died Friday, September 12, 2014 in Madison, the results of a tree trimming accident. Mr. Buckley was born October 28, 1966 in Tyler, Texas, the son of Truitt and Alice Buckley. He was married 7 years to the former Kimberly Goben (Shelton) and has lived in the Morgan City area for the past 2 years. He was owner, operator of Bucks Tree Service and enjoyed riding dirt bikes, motorcycles, video gaming and fishing; he also loved cars and was active in pet rescues. He is survived by his wife: Kim Shelton; two daughters: Dale Drinkard and Nicole Drinkard; two grandchildren: Micah Hostios and Ava Drinkard; four brothers and sisters-in-law: Jimmy Don and Tonya Johnston, Jesse Wayne Buckley, Tracy Lee and Rhonda Buckley and Jim and Ester Oettle; a sister and brother-in-law: Betty and Jimmy Rice; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Brindlee Mountain Chapel, Morgan City, Brother Randy Blakely, officiating. The Family elected cremation to follow the service, Brindlee Mountain Chapel and Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel assisted the family with direction of the service and cremation arrangements. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Brindlee Mountain Chapel, Morgan City.

Janet Carol Lemons Sutton, 61 of Union Grove died Sunday, September 14, 2014 at her residence. Mrs. Sutton was born July 19, 1953 in Madison County the daughter of Leonard and Lois Lemons. She was a lifetime resident of the Morgan City area and a 1971 graduate of Union Hill High School. She was a secretary with Redstone Arsenal; she loved her children and family, enjoyed going to town and Face Book. She was married 19 years to Gary Dale Sutton when he preceded her in death November 6, 2002. She is survived by a son: Derek Alexander Sutton; a daughter: Pamela Renee Sutton; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Hilda and Richard Buckshaw, Judy and Hershel Metcalf and Ernestine and Bill Carter and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 18, 2014 at Brindlee Mountain Chapel, Morgan City Brother Mylon Metcalf, officiating. Burial will be in Rescue Cemetery, Brindlee Mountain Chapel, Morgan City and Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, directing. Pallbearers will be Danny Carter, James Coble, Alan Crouch, Brian Ingram, Greg Metcalf, Jeff Rogers, Mike Rogers and Chuck Sutton. She was a retired teacher and she was married to Roger I. Miller who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a Son: Randall B. Miller. Survivors include: Sons: Roger I. Miller, Jr. and Wife, Joyce of Joppa and Stanley L. Miller and Wife, Vickie of Arab; Brother: Craig Williams of Canada; Granddaughter: Haley Rae Wilks; Great Grandchild: Payton Wilks. Funeral Service will be Wed. Sept. 24, 2014, at 2 PM at Gober Funeral Chapel with burial in Arab Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Tues. from 6 PM until 8 PM at Gober Funeral Chapel. John Medlin age 87, of the Georgia Mountain area in Guntersville, passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Marshall Medical Center North. He was born October 11, 1926 in Madison County to John Albert and Mazilee Carothers Medlin. He had lived in Guntersville since 1987. He was retired from UAH and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Guntersville. He served in the U. S. Navy during WWII aboard the U. U. S. NERRUS, submarine tender in the Pacific Theater. Mr. Medlin is survived by his wife: Helen Hall Medlin of Guntersville; son: John Paul (Vicki) Medlin of Guntersville; daughter: Gail Ruth (Gerald) Daniel of Guntersville; brothers: Robert E. Medlin of New Market, AL and Leroy Medlin of Jefferson City, IN; sister: Charlene Wages of Sheffield, AL; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Graveside Service will be Thursday, September 25, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at Maple Hill Cemetery in Huntsville with Donald Hall officiating.

Rhonda Jones Ponder, 69 of Arab died Thursday, September 25, 2014 in Hospice of Marshall County Shepherd’s Cove. Mrs. Ponder was born October 11, 1944 the daughter of Harve and Della Jones. She was a life time resident of Marshall County, the Union Grove and Arab area, a 1963 graduate of Arab High School and a member of Gilliam Springs Baptist Church. She retired from Chrysler. She and her husband, Davis L. Ponder were married July 13, 1984. She is survived by her husband of 30 years: Davis L. Ponder; a son and daughter-in-law: Mitch and Melissa Stone; step daughter and spouse: Amanda and David Sloan; grandson: Landon Stone; six step grandchildren: Morgan Ponder, Cody Mayo, Katelyn, Jacob, Andrew and Christian Sloan; two sisters and a brother-in-law: Nell Jones Kelly and Sarah and Barry Wright; brothers and sisters-in-law: Wayne and Arlene Jones, Johnny and Glenda Jones, Donald Jones and her twin brother and his wife: Ronald and Sue Jones and a host of nieces, nephews other family members and many dear friends and neighbors; preceded in death by two sons: Jonathan Stone and Douglas Lee Stone, her parents: Harve and Della Jones and a sister: Laura Black. Jr. and Robbie Satterfield Whisenant. He was a former resident of Union Grove, but has called Arab his home for the past 7 years. He and the former Mary Nell Latta were married 33 years; his first wife, Shirley Ann Tolton Whisenant preceded him in death September 1, 1979. Mr. Whisenant was owner, operator of his own business, a dump truck, trucking business and was a member of New Canaan Baptist Church, south of Arab. He is survived by his wife: Mary Latta Neal-Whisenant; a son and daughter-in-law: Dale and Brenda Whisenant; three step sons and spouses: David Neal, Clifton and Tammy Neal and Greg and Lisa Neal; 2 grandchildren, 11 step grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral service will be 4:00 p.m. Friday, October 3, 2014 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, Brother Jerry Burgett, officiating. Burial will be in Brock’s Chapel Cemetery, Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, directing. Jimmy Wayne Bonds of Union Grove, the Morgan City area died Monday, October 6, 2014 at his residence. Mr. Bonds, a life time resident of Marshall County was born June 29, 1947; he was the son of Claris and Tiny Bonds. As a child he grew up in the Guntersville area and later moved to the Scant City, Grassy area. He and the former Bonita “Bonnie” Robinson were married 38 years and have called the Morgan City area of Union Grove their home for several years. He was a member of the Baptist faith and had worked as a painter, in construction, Jim’s Painting. He is survived by his wife: Bonnie Bonds; three daughters and sons-in-law: Delores and Richard Sloan, Teri Henry and Kari and Scotty Whisenant; a son: Pete Winn; 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; three brothers: Leon, Terry and Lynn Bonds; a sister-in-law: Barbara Bonds, brother-in-law: Marty Upton and preceded in death by a sister: Judy Upton and two brothers: Ed Bonds and Sonny Carter.
